The Author

Amy Kate Petersen, formerly Hilsman, lives with her family in Holland, MI where she has educated her children at home for eighteen years. Her oldest daughter is pursuing a PhD in mathematics at Notre Dame and her nineteen year old is studying cello at Central Michigan University. Her younger daughters are in grades 11, 9, and 3.

Amy Kate has a Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from St. Olaf College. At St. Olaf, she completed her music degree while continuing studies in history and literature - areas of interest that developed during her years at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Upon graduation, she studied toward her Montessori certification at St. Catherine's and has since taken a handful of Suzuki teacher training courses as well as post-graduate courses in Orff and Dalcroze.

In addition to home-schooling her five daughters, Amy Kate has worked in Montessori schools, directed graded children's choir programs, and runs an active music studio out of her home. In her free time she enjoys wearing her amateur historian hat and indulging her love of biography.
