About Us

Amy Kate Petersen lives in Holland, Michigan where she has home educated her children for many years. Her older daughters are currently pursuing a variety of degrees, including a PhD in mathematics at Notre Dame, a B.M. in music education at Central Michigan University, and a combination of violin performance and chemistry (pre-med) at St. Olaf College. Her younger daughters continue their home education along with studies at our excellent local public schools. They are currently in 11th and 5th grade.

Amy Kate has a Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from St. Olaf College. At St. Olaf, she completed her music degree while continuing studies in history and literature - areas of interest that developed during her years at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Upon graduation from St. Olaf, she studied toward her Montessori certification at St. Catherine's and has taken a handful of Suzuki teacher training courses as well as post-graduate coursework in Orff and Dalcroze.

In addition to home educating her five daughters, Amy Kate has worked part time in Montessori schools, directed graded children's choir programs, and runs an active music studio out of her home. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, a daily iced coffee, and indulging in her love of biography
