Amy Kate Petersen lives in Holland, Michigan where she has home educated her children for many years. Her four older daughters are currently pursuing a variety of degrees, including a PhD in mathematics at Notre Dame, a Bachelor of Music at Central Michigan University, and a combination of music, chemistry, and undecided at St. Olaf College. Her youngest continues her home education along with studies at our excellent local public schools. She is currently in the seventh grade.
Amy Kate has a Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from St. Olaf College. At St. Olaf, she completed her music degree while continuing studies in the humanities - areas of interest that developed during her years at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Upon graduation from St. Olaf, she studied toward Montessori certification at St. Catherine's and has taken a handful of Suzuki teacher training courses, as well as post-graduate coursework in Orff and Dalcroze.
In addition to home educating her five daughters, Amy Kate has worked in Montessori schools, directed graded children's choir programs, run music camps for children at Hope College, and has an active music studio out of her home. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, a daily iced coffee, and indulging in her love of biography.
