About Us
Amy Kate Petersen lives in Holland, Michigan where she home educated her children for many years. The original task card sets were created by hand for her oldest, Sarah, when she was entering first grade (and had three younger sisters!). The task card sets grew with Sarah and, by the end, were edited by her just ahead of her graduation from home school in 2014. She continues her research-filled life in a faculty position at University of Colorado Boulder. Hannah, now a music educator and Mama of one, made use of all of the task card sets as she followed in Sarah's footsteps and graduated from high school in 2017. Holly and Abby graduated as home school students in 2019 and 2021. They used Creek Edge Press materials throughout all of K-12 and added Chamber Orchestra, Art, PE, AP Biology/Chemistry/Stats/Calculus, and IB Physics and Theory of Knowledge, through our excellent local high school throughout their high school years. Holly, recently graduated from St. Olaf College and Abby is entering her junior year there. My youngest, Beret Anna, continues her home education along with studies at our public schools. She is currently entering 9th grade, and we are on moving into year-two of the history cycle. This is Amy Kate's sixth time and she's thinking of keeping it going with her grandchildren!
Amy Kate has a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College. At St. Olaf, she completed her music degree while continuing studies in the humanities - areas of interest that developed during her years at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Upon graduation from St. Olaf, she studied toward Montessori certification at St. Catherine's and has taken a handful of Suzuki teacher training courses, as well as post-graduate coursework in Orff and Dalcroze. While she has worked as a studio and music educator in a variety of capacities, she would tell you that her real education came through the daily discipline of facilitating an education that was 'an atmosphere, a discipline and a life' with her girls. Recently, she completed a Master's degree in Counseling and is beginning a career in clinical mental health. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, a daily iced coffee, and indulging in her love of biography.
